New Fantasy - Victory of Eagles by Naomi Novik

The latest by His Majesty's Dragon author Naomi Novik, Victory of Eagles continues the "alternate history" Temeraire saga, the story of former Royal Navy Captain Will Laurence and his dragon, Temeraire, as they fight in the Napoleonic wars.  As the story opens, Temeraire and Laurence have completed their mission in Empire of Ivory, to find the cure for the horrible illness afflicting the dragons of the British forces.  But events have taken a tragic turn; Temeraire is in China, having been relieved of active duty, and Capt. Laurence is condemned to death for treason.  

Author Novik has been hailed for combining military history and fantasy in a fresh way that will appeal to readers of Anne MacCaffrey and Patrick O'Brien alike.  The other titles in the series are:  His Majesty's Dragon, Throne of Jade, The Black Powder War, and Empire of Ivory.
