Inside the World of Charm City Cakes

One of my favorite guilty pleasures is watching the Food Network.  I especially enjoy watching top cake decorators compete on Food Network Challenge & Ace of Cakes, a reality show centered around the doings of Charm City Cakes, a specialty cake shop in Baltimore, M.D. owned by Duff Goldberg.

So if you're a fan of Ace of Cakes or awed by cake in general, check out Duff's new book Ace of Cakes: Inside the World of Charm City CakesThe book explains how Charm City Cakes came to be what it is today: how the staff came together &  how the show came about.  It offers tips by various CCC staff members, answers frequently asked questions about the show, and highlights some pretty awesome cakes.

Pulp Fiction- The Next Generation

"Pulp Ficiton" describes the type of stories that were originally published in magazines and later in paperback format.  "Pulp" refers the cheap pulp paper that such stories were printed out.  Generally both the quality of the materials and often the publisher were considered cheap.  Classic pulp stories were often about adventurers, detectives, and even westerns.

Hunt at the Well of Eternity featuring the adventures of Gabriel Hunt is a modern day throwback to the old pulp ficiton novels.   An Indiana Jones type character Gabriel Hunt is a modern day traveler and adventurer.  When a museum benefit is crashed and a woman is kidnapped Gabriel Hunt knew that there was something the woman & her mysterious package that that the kidnappers were willing to kill for.   Check out the book to read more about this exciting adventure.

Plus coming soon:  Hunt Through the Cradle of Fear.

New music memoir: Under Their Thumb: How a Nice boy from Brooklyn Got Mixed Up With The Rolling Stones

Unde by Bill Germanr Their Thumb:  How a Nice Boy from Brooklyn Got Mixed Up with The Rolling Stones (and Lived to Tell About It) by Bill German is a"warts-and-all" "tell-all" account of German's career working for the Rolling Stones as public relations guy, personal assistant, and all-around fixer.  A journalism student until he dropped out to follow the Stones, German always knew what he wanted to do with his life:  chronicle the work and career of his favorite band, The Rolling Stones.  Amazingly, German went from publisher of a fan-zine to personal confidant.  This is his story:  "he was a player in the Mick-versus-Keith feud and was an eyewitness to Keith's midlife crisis and Ron's overindulgences."
